Working together, we build Democratic values and make change happen!

We Invite You to Get Involved!

We'll be back to our regular schedule for the rest the year. Polk County Budget Planning needed our regular date

Thanks to everyone, especially J. P., who created our most successful Pentacle Fundraiser, the “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” The acting was wonderful, the directing outstanding, the pies were delicious, and the seats were full! Everyone had a great time.

This annual benefit helps Polk Democrats raise money used to register voters, assist local candidates, and provide information on issues.

We were honored to Rep Brad Witt from SD 31 and Meredith Wood Smith, Chair of the Oregon Democratic Party. In her brief talk, Meredith underscored the importance of working for the reelection of Kate Brown, Oregon Secretary of State, and Brad Avakian, Oregon Labor Commissioner. While these offices may not be as well known as Congressional ones, their role is basic to democratic values.  The Secretary of State in insures that all who wish to vote have the opportunity, and that elections are safe and fair. The Labor Commissioner ensures civil rights, and promotes job skills for young Oregonians. We urge everyone reading this to think about how to support their campaigns!

Meredith also reminded the crowd of the 3rd Annual Wayne Morse Dinner on Saturday, April 21, 2012, 7 PM at the Tiffany Center in Portland. This year, the Democratic Party of Oregon has the honor of presenting remarks from Governor John Kitzhaber and keynote remarks from very special guest Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick. The Wayne Morse Dinner is Saturday, April 21, 2012, 7 PM at the Tiffany Center in Portland. Time is beginning to run out to get your tickets! Come and meet Governor Deval Patrick! Kick it with Governor Kitzhaber and celebrate a year that has already been full of success and will surely only bring more. The Wayne Morse Dinner is a unique opportunity for Democrats across Oregon to gather, enjoy great company, talk with our Democratic elected officials, dine together and celebrate the values that we all hold so dear. Space is limited and the dinner will sell out. Get your tickets today!

This year, the Democratic Party of Oregon will have the honor of presenting Governor John Kitzhaber for opening remarks and keynote address from very special guest Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.

Gov. Patrick's life has charted a path from the South Side of Chicago to the U.S. Justice Department, Fortune 500 boardrooms, and now the State House of Massachussetts. He is the state's first African American governor and the second African American to be elected governor of any US state. Patrick served as an Assistant Attorney General under President Bill Clinton for the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, where he worked on issues including racial profiling and police misconduct as the nation's top civil rights post.

Propelled into office in 2006 by an unprecedented grassroots campaign, Gov. Patrick oversaw the implementation of his state's health care reform program that provides over 98% of state residents with affordable health care; his leadership has made Massachusetts into a national leader in job creation, educational achievement, and clean energy.

With Oregon's own health care reforms well under way--thanks to our recent victories in the State Legislature and the leadership of Governor Kitzhaber--I can't think of a more timely and welcome guest than Gov. Patrick, and can't wait to hear his thoughts about the road that lies ahead for our nation.

With important races just around the corner, your ticket purchase will play an important role in funding our 2012 statewide volunteer program--the same program that delivered over 446,000 phone calls and over 303,000 door knocks in 2010 to elect Gov. Kitzhaber, so that he could stand for us in the Governor's office in Salem.

Get your tickets now to ensure you have a seat at the table. I'll see you there.

All the best,
